The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) serves Houston and San Antonio’s Latino communities with middle school, high school and adult education as well as numerous social programs. The Gulf Freeway campus, located in Houston’s Eastside consists of a haphazard grouping of 1970 vintage one story office buildings, a 30,000 SF high school building and a small single story clinic. RdlR’s Master Plan for the Gulf Freeway facility serves as the vision of a collegiate campus reflecting Latino cultural attitudes, art and sustainable design, The Plan calls for multilevel classroom buildings and parking structure that frees area for critically needed campus greens, preservation and enhancement of trees and landscaping. Planned growth provides for phased construction in order to allow for continuous use of the campus during the re-building process. A new circulation loop improves vehicular access while maintaining and improving campus security.
