UH Downtown Student Services Building

A new 130,000 SF classroom and student service building at the University of Houston Downtown campus. The project was designed to complement the historic character of existing buildings yet makes its own statement at the end of view corridors from downtown. PGAL served as architects of record.

UHD inherited the Merchants and Manufacturers Building (1930) when it purchased the assets of the South Texas Junior College. This massive structure though historically significant, did not reflect a collegiate environment or generate iconic identify for the university.  RdlR’s designed the stair tower of the UHD Academic /Student Services Building to create an iconic element for UHD.
