PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project involves the design of a 25,000 SF transfer facility on an existing Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) campus at 5711 Neches Street. The existing facility was undersized, unable to accommodate the desired throughput of 1,000+ tons of waste per day, and lacked sufficient overhead clearance for safe and efficient unloading on the tipping floor. Additionally, its structural limitations posed significant risks, including rapid wear of the structural steel and the need for tipping floor replacement within months of continued use.

A comprehensive evaluation of the existing facility revealed its inability to meet operational demands safely and efficiently. These deficiencies necessitated a replacement facility designed to address:

  • Increased capacity to handle daily transfer volumes.

  • Adequate overhead clearance for safer unloading operations.

  • Enhanced durability and reduced maintenance costs through improved structural design.

The new design prioritizes employee safety and operational efficiency while maximizing productivity through thoughtful planning and layout. Situated on a 5-acre tract within the larger 25-acre campus, the replacement facility integrates seamlessly with the site's existing infrastructure, which includes vehicle maintenance facilities, administration offices, fueling stations, and vehicle wash facilities.

The new transfer facility will set a benchmark for modern solid waste management, ensuring long-term functionality, safety, and adaptability to future demands.
