The expansion of the College of the Mainland Public Safety Careers Program is a crucial step in enhancing the educational journey for both students and staff. Real-world training and hands-on experiences play a pivotal role in the success of programs like Fire Protection Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Law Enforcement, and Criminal Justice. Recognizing the importance of practical learning, the new facility is designed not only to accommodate the existing functions of the program but also to integrate additional features that amplify the hands-on approach.

The inclusion of a new classroom building signifies a commitment to providing a conducive learning environment. This space will serve as a hub for theoretical instruction, discussions, and collaborative learning. However, understanding that the essence of public safety careers lies in practical application, the project incorporates a new firing range. Vehicle storage is another key component, as well as the addition of a Class A burn building and a fire training tower underscoring the commitment to provide realistic scenarios for students in fire protection technology. These specialized training spaces are indispensable for cultivating the skills required in high-pressure situations.

In alignment with the COMPASS 2025 Master Plan for the campus, this project not only addresses the immediate need for space but also strategically enhances the overall learning experience. The emphasis on real-world training and hands-on experiences ensures that graduates from the Public Safety Careers Program are not only well-versed in theoretical knowledge but also equipped with the practical skills necessary for success in their respective fields. This expansion is a testament to the college's dedication to preparing students for the challenges they may encounter in their public service careers.
