PROJECT DESCRIPTION
On September 13, 2008 Hurricane Ike made its way through the region, leaving the fabric roof of the beloved Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in shreds. The steel structure survived intact but without the fabric roof the venue was unusable. The Pavilion’s board of directors took action by engaging a design build team lead by Fretz Construction with RDLR and renowned structural engineer, Horst Berger.
The new design doubled the seating capacity of the venue while increasing resistance to storm winds. Due to the diligence of the team, the project was designed and built in 164 days to meet upcoming performance schedules. On May 1, 2009 the pavilion reopened for the enjoyment of all. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is back!
