PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Finca Tres Robles represents a remarkable community farm and grocer committed to supplying organic, fresh produce to all residents in the second ward, an area historically identified as a food desert. Founded in 2014 by Small Places, this urban farm supports up to 150 families weekly by offering Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares, operating weekend farm stands on-site, and distributing produce to food-insecure families in the neighborhood, with valuable assistance from El Centro de Corazón.

In collaboration with Harris County Precinct 2, Commissioner Adrian Garcia, and the Harris County Engineering Department, Finca Tres Robles secured a lease for a 1.5-acre lot close to its original location, which will now become the organization's new, permanent home. Maintaining their presence in the East End was of utmost importance to them, as they aimed to continue and expand their impactful work within the community.

Designed by RDLR Architects, the new facility spans 6,200 square feet and incorporates a grocery store, events pavilion, a teaching kitchen, and produce processing areas. The site features a spacious lawn nestled under the shade of three oak trees and includes a half-acre of field space. With this relocation and enhanced infrastructure, Finca Tres Robles will be able to triple its impact, providing sustenance to 450 households and accommodating a larger number of guests during events. The expanded grocery store will offer a wider range of products, including grains, breads, meats, and other essential food items. Additionally, the new teaching kitchen will host hands-on cooking classes, empowering the community with valuable culinary skills.

Notably, the site's strategic location fosters connectivity for the residents of Heartwood to the west, a new mixed-use facility to the north, the Harris County Sheriff's office and community center to the east, and a neighborhood of single-family homes to the south. Anticipated to be completed by the first quarter of 2024, this project exemplifies the spirit of community engagement and sustenance, making a significant positive impact on the lives of residents in the region.
