SER-Jobs for Progress Underway on New Workforce Opportunity Center
The local chapter of SER-Jobs for Progress held a ceremony Sept. 19 to announce its progress on its new Workforce Opportunity Center in Houston’s East End. RDLR Architects is providing architectural design services for the project.
The first phase will be a 22,000-square-foot facility that includes Houston’s first Career Café, according to a media alert. The cafe will provide healthy foods and beverages along with resources for both clients and local residents to conduct self-directed job searches and opportunities to interview with employers. The new main campus also will double SER’s existing classroom space for courses including life skills, financial education, career readiness, GED preparation and computer skills.
The second phase will be a 30,000-square-foot warehouse that will house training labs for specific careers like construction and logistics. It also will allow SER to expand its job training services to new sectors, including health care training programs, per the media alert.
