RDLR Architects Joins METRO in Groundbreaking for State-of-the-Art Maintenance Facility

This morning, RDLR Architects proudly joined METRO in celebrating the groundbreaking of the new Maintenance of Way (MOW) Facility, located at 1507 Keene Street near the IH 45 and IH 10 interchange.

This state-of-the-art facility is designed to support METRORail maintenance while enhancing operational efficiency, improving resource allocation, and elevating the customer experience.

Situated on a 2.69-acre site, the new MOW facility will include:

  • A 30,000 SF main building (featuring a 3,500 SF shop)

  • Laydown yard and warehouse storage

  • Staff parking

  • Stormwater detention

The strategically centralized location will streamline operations, reducing travel and preparation times, while fostering improved communication and coordination among staff. Enhanced safety features, such as crane-assisted loading, further underscore the facility's forward-thinking design.

“We’re honored to partner with METRO on this impactful project that will significantly improve transit operations and service delivery,” said Daniel Ortiz, AIA, LEED AP, Principal at RDLR Architects.

The MOW facility is a crucial step in ensuring METRO continues to provide efficient, reliable service to the Houston community..
