PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Barrington Place opened to students and families in 1990. As one of Fort Bend ISD’s older campuses, its renovation was slated to be included in the proposed 2023 bond package. Fort Bend ISD identified the existence of non-airborne mold at Barrington Place Elementary in June 2022. As a result, the campus was closed for the 2022-23 school year and students were assigned to nearby schools while renovations and remediation take place.

Designed by RDLR Architects, the project includes renewing the entire interior and bringing a refreshed character to the aging school by creating a new entry and enhanced site improvements.

The remediation and renovation include all interior walls at classrooms and offices. Upgrades of all the restrooms. Converting 5 classrooms into collaboration spaces. The scope also includes a new stage, a new entry or secure vestibule, and a new gym addition. Site improvements include a new visitor parking to meet ADA requirements, new drop off driveway and canopy, new fence and new perimeter road around the school.

It was important for this project to upgrade portions of the air conditioning system to address humidity and air quality inside the building. New air intake units were designed to be retrofitted with existing air handling units. The existing ductwork was cleaned. Environmental remediation work was scoped to remove any mold growth in drywall and ductwork insulation.

Due to the need for a quick turn around the project was fast-tracked and delivered through the issue of two design packages. One package was for the selective demolition of the interior of the building, while a second package was for exterior demolition and new construction. The main goal was for the design and construction to be completed before 24-25 school calendar year.
