PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Located on 9.5 acres in Southwest Houston, this 2-story center serves as a community hub for the Indo-American community in addition to all Houstonians. The 29,000 square foot structure is designed to build on India’s rich architectural principles rather than replicate its forms. This building houses various organizations, provides community services including cultural and language education, immigration services, medical and legal services. India House will provide the “facility and infrastructure to support the broad needs of the Indian community” and the disconnected organizations providing services to the community.
The Community Center building immediately captures the visitor’s attention with an impressive jewellike entry lobby. The interior lobby volume sparkles with light-play created by a lattice patterned glass or “Jali” in Hindustani, a traditional sun-screen with our contemporized interpretation.
