The Gateway to Houston: Mickey Leland International Terminal Baggage Inspection Station
The Mickey Leland International Terminal Complex (MLITC) is a pivotal component of the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP) at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), designed to transform the international travel experience. As part of this ambitious initiative, RDLR Architects is working with design architect Fentress Architects to provide production/AOR for the new Mickey Leland International Terminal Foreign Flag Checked Baggage Inspection Station Building - Core and Shell.

This expansion project, known as the FIS Renovation and Expansion, is an integral component of the Houston Airport System's IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP). It aligns with the strategic growth plans of airlines operating in Houston and places a strong emphasis on both constructability and enhancing the passenger experience.

Ellie is a University of Houston College of Architecture graduate with 20+ years of experience in diverse architectural design, spanning education in school districts as well as higher education, commercial, retail, healthcare, community, and residential projects. Harvesting Hope: Finca Tres Robles' Relocation Takes Root, Fostering an Expansion of Urban Farm and Community Services
Finca Tres Robles represents a remarkable community farm and grocer committed to supplying organic, fresh produce to all residents in the second ward, an area historically identified as a food desert. Founded in 2014 by Small Places, this urban farm supports up to 150 families weekly by offering Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares, operating weekend farm stands on-site, and distributing produce to food-insecure families in the neighborhood, with valuable assistance from El Centro de Corazón.
FBISD Barrington Place Elementary School Renovations Bring Refreshed Improvements to Aging School
Barrington Place opened to students and families in 1990. As one of Fort Bend ISD’s older campuses, its renovation was slated to be included in the proposed 2023 bond package. Fort Bend ISD identified the existence of non-airborne mold at Barrington Place Elementary in June 2022. As a result, the campus was closed for the 2022-23 school year and students were assigned to nearby schools while renovations and remediation take place.
Northeast Houston Transfer Facility Promotes Safety and Increases Work Efficiency
Located at 5711 Neches Street, the 25-acre solid waste campus is operated and managed by the City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) and services the Northeast quadrant of Houston. The complex is composed of vehicle maintenance facilities, administration offices, fueling and vehicle wash facilities. As the only transfer station in the Northeast quadrant, increased operational efficiency is critical when facilitating the transfer of solid waste to the closest landfill.

Texas Hindu Camp Provides Unique Gathering Place for Hindu Communities and Inspiration for Future Generations
The Texas-Hindu campsite is designed as a bridge between all of the Hindu communities across Texas that are in need of a place of gathering. Designed by RDLR Architects, the project included programming, master planning, and architectural design for the Texas Hindu Camp that would be built on primarily undeveloped 51.7-acre site. The owners intended to also have the ability to rent the camp and use it for special events such as weddings and yoga retreats to extend the use of the property beyond the 2-week duration.

The Houston Business Journal has recognized 31 nonprofits and for-profit companies in the 2023 Diversity in Business Awards. The honorees were celebrated at HBJ's 2023 Diversity in Business Awards luncheon on March 30. These Outstanding Diverse Organization honorees, along with 36 individual honorees, were nominated and then chosen by the HBJ staff to be recognized for their efforts to promote equality and diversity in the workforce. Each year marketers and business developers in Houston’s built environment come together for an evening of celebration to honor the most creative and effective marketing materials. This year, the 2023 SMPS Houston Design Awards Gala, “A Starry Night” was held on Friday, March 3, 2023 and recognized RDLR Architects with three awards. The chapter also continued its long-standing tradition of supporting Casa de Esperanza de Los Ninos by donating proceeds from the wine pull to the charity.
RDLR Architects welcomes Jimmie Lee Dubuque III to the Design Team
A graduate of the University of Washington, with a degree in Architecture, Jimmie Lee Dubuque III joins RDLR as an intern who is excited to learn what it means to be an architect and to give back to his hometown of Houston, Texas. A United States Marine Corps veteran of 8 years, he has lived in multiple states including California, Hawaii, and Washington for the last 12 years. Jimmie is most enthusiastic about discovering ways the built environment can positively impact the individuals that utilize the space designed.
New METRO Maintenance of Way Facility to Improve Operational Efficiency & Resource Allocation
Located at 1507 Keene Street on the northeast quadrant of the IH 45 and IH 10 interchange, the new Maintenance of Way (MOW) facility will support the maintenance of METRORail vehicles, improve operational efficiency, enhance customer experience, and improve resource allocation.
